Familiarization Flying & Gliding

A fundamental part of the Air  Cadet Program is flying and the air element.  Cadets get an opportunity to fly in an airplane or glider during their time with cadets. During this flight, the pilot demonstrates certain movements of the aircraft ad explains the important phases of the flight. Each cadet is required to attend one Gliding or Fam Flight a year (weather permitting) . Flying opportunities are open to all cadets.  Gliding flights take place in two seat gliders owned by the Air Cadet League of Canada and operated by the Department of National Defense.   Cadets 16 years or older and who have completed a minimum of 3 years in the program can apply for pilot training in the summer.   These summer courses allow you to become a glider or powered aircraft pilot (called a private pilot's licence)

Ground School

Ground school is the flight training that is held in the classroom rather than in an aircraft. Cadets who are interested in the Glider or Pilot Flying Scholarship Courses should be taking this program. It  will help cadets in their preparation for the qualifying exams required to apply for the scholarships.  Cadets accepted into the summer courses will have the opportunity to become a glider or powered aircraft pilot.  Cadets can earn their private private licence before their driver's licence!
